Everyone has different values. These are the priorities which determine how we perceive, make decisions and act upon the world. These values influence what we like or dislike, are attracted to or repelled by, what opens us up or shuts us down. These values might be concentrated in one part of your life or over your career, financial, family, social, physical and spiritual world.
Many adults do not know what their values are and therefore do not know how they make decisions. Have you ever wondered why sometimes you feel uncomfortable with a decision you have made or have had thrust upon you?
So your probably wondering how does that affect you in your sales career? Well, it can affect you in many ways; either personally or through the way your customers will interact with you and make purchasing decisions.
Let’s start with you the sales person. If one of your core values is excellence, you will always make decisions based on how you can improve and get better at your sales. You may look at retail training courses that will give you the edge over your competition. You will have an understanding of the product you sell because you have taken the time to research it. You will attract customers who want the best service, as a consequence of you having the expert product knowledge which in the end will leave them with a positive experience. Values help you to understand what is motivating you or driving you. Some of the top values of sales people may include confidence, courage, achievement, connection, integrity, creativity, commitment, challenge, respect and resourcefulness. Choose the one that would benefit you the most and help to improve every aspect of your life.
Take some time out of your day to decide where you are in your career and where you want to be. Once you have done that, make some decisions about what you need to do to get to your end goal. This is a good time to ask yourself, what are the values that will help me to reach my goal?
Once you know what your values are keep them posted near you, so you can look at them regularly and make any decisions throughout the day based on your values.
Once you are consistently meeting your values you will become a happier and successful sales person.
